President John Mahama has reiterated his support for the full participation of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in the running of basic and secondary schools in the country.
Speaking during a meeting with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Thursday, the president said the practice everywhere was that local communities made input into the administration of schools.
He explained that a robust PTA was integral to the progress and learning of students.
“The trend everywhere in the world is to gove communities a say in how schools are run and that is why I felt scandalized when PTAs were virtually shoved aside and not allowed to a part of the running of our schools especially at the secondary level.”
President Mahama continued: “I believe that PTA must be fully restored so that they work with teachers and administrations of the schools to make sure that the schools are run properly and that our children our getting a good outcome in terms of teaching and learning.”
