Lawyer and Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) team has claimed that the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta is delaying his return to Ghana in a bid to evade justice.

Speaking on GH Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, the media commentator said Mr. Ofori-Atta was being pursued over his role in the Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited (SML) contract where the state was shortchanged millions of cedis.

He accused the former government official of making up excuses to dodge accountability.

“And that is why their Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has decided to abscond from the jurisdiction of our country under dubious,  unbelievable and pathetic circumstances where is made an attempt to use health as a ruse to evade justice,” he said on the show.

He noted that the government was exploring “every legal avenue” to return Mr. Ofori-Atta to the country to face the law.

Mr. Suhuyini explained that the public will not take the fight for accountability will not sit well with the public if the embattled former Minister of Finance is not made to answer for the crimes in which he has been implicated.

He claimed that even though the entire Akufo-Addo – Bawumia led administration were questionable on corruption-relatable matters, certain individuals were the “epitome” of the scandals.

Last week, The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) officially designated Ghana’s immediate past Minister of Finance, Kenneth Ofori Atta, as a ‘wanted’ person following a request by the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP).

This development occured after the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng on Monday, 2nd June, 2025, stated that his outfit had run out of patience with Mr. Ofori-Atta  following what it described as repeated delays and noncompliance with ongoing criminal proceedings against him.
