President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the University for Development Studies (UDS) soccer team for their historic victory at the FISU World University Games in China, describing their achievement as a source of national pride and inspiration for Ghana’s youth.
Speaking when he met the players, technical team, and management of UDS at the Presidency, President Mahama said the team’s triumph has “lifted Ghana’s flag high on the global stage” and demonstrated the country’s growing potential in youth sports.
“The story of your victory can be termed from Tamale to the world stage,” he said. “This perfectly embodies the spirit of the Reset Agenda – Ghana rising through discipline, opportunity, and excellence.”
The President praised the team’s discipline, teamwork, and determination, noting that their success has brought honour not only to UDS but also to the entire nation.
“You brought glory to Ghana and renewed faith in the power of young people, education, and sports to transform lives,” he added.
He also commended the university’s leadership for their support and commitment to student development.
“Let me once again congratulate Professor Alhassan, the Vice-Chancellor, your academic team and management team, the UDS community, and all who supported the team on this journey,” President Mahama said.
Encouraging the players to remain humble and continue striving for excellence, he urged them to use their victory as motivation to inspire others.
“Carry this, your victory, with humility. Let it inspire others to dream boldly and work hard,” he concluded.
The UDS soccer team made history as the first Ghanaian and African university to win gold at the FISU World University Games – a feat that has drawn widespread praise from the sports fraternity and the public alike.
