President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of the North East Region that the persistent power fluctuations in some areas will soon be resolved.
He acknowledged the impact of the situation on small scale businesses in the area and the socioeconomic situation of the people in affected communities.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the region as part of his ‘Thank You Tour’ of the region on Saturday, President Mahama said steps are being taken to ensure stable electricity supply across the region, promising that ongoing challenges will soon be a thing of the past.
“We cannot industrialize without electricity. We cannot learn, we cannot work or innovate in the dark. I’m aware of the persistent power fluctuations in the eastern zones of this region.
“As part of the National Energy Expansion Plan, we are going to prioritize the looping of the Pawlugu substation which will help stabilise the supply and prevent the outages that is crippling small businesses and affecting households in the North East Region,” the touring president said.
He pledged to make sure that the intermittent power supply presently experienced becomes “a thing of the past”.
