President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all his scheduled activities and public engagements for the rest of the week in response to the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two cabinet ministers.
A press statement issued on Wednesday, August 6, by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, confirmed the suspension and announced a three-day period of national mourning starting Thursday, August 7, 2025.
“In honour of the departed, President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all his scheduled activities and programmes for the rest of the week,” the statement read.
The statement also reiterated the directive issued by the Chief of Staff that all national flags must fly at half-mast until further notice.

The country has been plunged into mourning following the fatal crash of a Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter en route from Accra to Obuasi. The crash, which occurred near Adansi in the Ashanti Region, resulted in the deaths of all eight individuals onboard; including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and three military personnel.
Numerous tributes have since poured in from local and international bodies, including the United Nations, African Union Commission, the German Embassy, and President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone.
