Co-Chair of the Citizen’s Movement Against Corruption (CMaC), Edem Senanu, has applauded President John Dramani Mahama for his renewed commitment to ensuring swift prosecution of corruption-related cases in Ghana.
President Mahama recently revealed plans to meet with the Chief Justice, Attorney General, and other key stakeholders to devise measures aimed at addressing the persistent mismanagement of public funds cited in the Auditor-General’s reports.
The President emphasized the need for an expedited judicial process, proposing that corruption prosecutions should be concluded within six months.
Speaking to journalists in Koforidua during a stakeholders’ engagement on the National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NEACAP 2026–2030), Mr. Senanu described the President’s stance as a decisive move that could significantly strengthen accountability and rebuild public confidence in the state’s anti-corruption machinery.
He said timely and transparent prosecution of corruption cases would deter wrongdoing and restore faith in governance.
Mr. Senanu also emphasized the importance of equipping judges with the requisite knowledge to effectively handle corruption cases, explaining that weak understanding of evidence has often delayed justice in the past.
“I think it is highly commendable. Indeed, many of us have felt that this charade of having a Public Accounts Committee sit, highlight figures, and then a year after highlighting even higher figures, without seeing traction on retrieving the money or holding culprits accountable, does not augur well for governance,” he stated.
“Because all of these feed into impunity. So how the President wants to deal with this matter is highly commendable,” he added.
The stakeholders’ forum formed part of a nationwide consultation process for the new National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NEACAP 2026–2030), which will replace the 2015–2024 framework that recently expired.
