The Neonatal Unit of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital has received a critical boost following the donation of essential neonatal equipment by McCarthy Hill School.
For years, the hospital has struggled with limited space and inadequate medical equipment, posing serious challenges to the care of premature and critically ill newborns. But that narrative is beginning to change.
Thanks to a generous donation from McCarthy Hill School, the hospital is now better equipped to handle neonatal emergencies. The school provided vital equipment including an incubator, oxygen cylinder, firefly phototherapy machine, and a baby monitor—tools that are expected to significantly improve the survival chances of premature babies.

According to Gloria Agyeiwaa Agyekum, a neonatal nurse at the hospital, lack of space and life-saving machines has hampered the delivery of quality neonatal care
“This donation couldn’t have come at a better time,” she said.
“It will go a long way in improving the quality of care we provide.”
Adjoa Annor, Resident Director of McCarthy Hill School, said the initiative is part of the school’s mission to instill empathy and social responsibility in its students.
“We want our students to grow up understanding the value of compassion and community service,” she explained.
In addition to the equipment, McCarthy Hill School also recognized and rewarded the hospital’s hardworking staff for their unwavering commitment to healthcare delivery in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality.

Founded in 2008, McCarthy Hill School has focused on offering world-class education while nurturing values of empathy, leadership, and civic responsibility among its learners.
This timely gesture not only fills a critical gap in neonatal care at the hospital but also serves as an inspiring example of how schools and communities can work together to bring about real change.
