Minority in Parliament has called for the dismissal of the Director General and Board Chairman of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) following the circulation of the 2025 Teachers’ Manual containing LGBTQ+ content.
Speaking to the media, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, MP for Old Tafo, said, “We [Minority] demand the dismissal of the Director General and Board Chairman of NaCCA.”
Assafuah criticized the oversight failure that allowed the manual to be approved and printed, emphasizing the need for accountability.
He further called for the immediate withdrawal of all teaching and learning materials containing LGBTQ-related content and a parliamentary inquiry to examine the approval process.
“Parliament responds to pressure. Silence weakens accountability,” Assafuah added, urging clergy, parents, civil society, and teacher unions to scrutinize educational content to ensure it aligns with Ghana’s cultural and religious values.
The NPP minority’s demands come amid wider public outrage and national debates on values, parental authority, and legislative oversight in the education system.
Meanwhile, NaCCA explained that Teacher Manuals were introduced for the first time during the rollout of the new Senior High School curriculum in the 2024/2025 academic year to support effective teaching.
