Minority reshuffle shifting focus on economic to internal issues avoidable – Political analyst

Political analyst, Dr. Frederick Oduro has described as unfortunate how the opposition NDC has diverted the focus on economic issues in the country to their internal challenges.

Speaking on State Affairs on GHOne TV with Lantam Papanko, Mr. Oduro urged the leadership of the NDC to urgently work in resolving their internal challenges that bothers on the Minority’s reshuffle in Parliament.

He bemoaned why the NDC could not manage the situation well thereby making it seem to be escalating each day.

“The NDC has every right to decide who leads them in Parliament even as the National leadership has the power. It is always helpful to engage people or engage key stakeholders on whatever decision that has to be taken. I believe that if there was a lot of engagement and key stakeholders talked to I think we could have avoided some of the brouhaha we have witnessed.

“I think that no matter how the National Executive will lead them they need to reach out and manage the situation. It doesn’t matter that a few people in Tamale are complaining but it does matter that you have a key Parliamentarian expressing open dissatisfaction with the decision,” Mr. Oduro warned.

He continued: “I think the NDC strategically did not manage the process very well. Because now the focus has shifted from economics into internal NDC challenges. I believe the leaders of the NDC have the responsibility to manage the situation. They cannot just wash it away.”

However, the Council of Elders of the NDC has warned the Minority Members of Parliament and the National Executive Committee of the party to desist from commenting on the shakeup in Parliament.

The Council acknowledged receipt of a petition from some members of the NDC Parliamentary caucus regarding recent appointments in the legislature and promised to act on it.

“The Council has initiated steps to act expeditiously on the petition and related matters. While this process is underway, the Council urges our Honourable Members of Parliament, Party leadership at all levels and all concerned persons to refrain from further public pronouncements on the matter in the larger interest of our great NDC. This is a time to be circumspect in order not to play into the hands of our detractors.

“The Council assures the rank and file of the Party of an early and principled resolution of the issues and ultimately, the NDC will emerge stronger and more united,” the release dated January 28, 2023 and signed the Chairman of the Elders, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu advised.

He continued: “We urge all members of the NDC to re-dedicate themselves to working for victory in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 2024, to alleviate the suffering of the Ghanaian people.”
