Two persons were killed in separate attacks on Sunday, January 28, across two locations in the Northern Region as residents continue to raise security concerns.
Gunmen strangled an elderly security man to death with a rope in a dawn attack on a shell filling station at Kakpayili in Tamale, and several hours later at a small chama village in Tuwule in the Central Gonja district, a 42-year-old butcher was also butchered to death by suspected herders.
The security man identified as 50-year-old Yahaya Naporo was found dead with his legs, hands and neck tied up. It is believed he was hit with an object during a struggle, others say he was strangled.
An undisclosed amount was stolen by the robbers marking another successful deadly attack on pump stations and mobile money vendors across the region since last year. Just last week, one was again killed by suspected robbers who attacked a pump station around airport junction near Savelugu.
At Tuluwe, youth have threatened to flush out all herders in the area in an operation to start today, Monday, January 29, over the gruesome murder of the popular butcher, Braimah Inusah.
Inusah’s body was found severely butchered and his motorbike burnt in a three day search by the townspeople. He left home on Friday and failed to return prompting the search. Locals believed a disagreement between the herders may have led to his murder.
Both deceased may have been buried in accordance with the tenets of Islam but police in the areas were notified.
The regional capital continue to witness daily deadly attacks on private business establishments and residences of wealthy individuals but these attacks are yet to receive full attention of the police.
