The Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia, Nana Owiredu Wadie I, has officially broken ground for the construction of a state-of-the-art Junior High School complex in Koforidua
The Ultra-Modern facility for 21st Century Learning will feature: Six (6) classroom blocks serving two streams, an AI & Robotics Centre, German & Spanish Language Centre, an International Curriculum Centre (Cambridge, O Level), a modern ICT & Library facility, Music Teaching Centre, Headmistress’ office and other administrative offices.
The “legacy project” fully funded by the Wadie Family aims to redefine quality basic education in Eastern Region and to honour 60th anniversary celebration of Madonna School next year.
The project is being executed by Kabaka Construction & Investment Ltd, owned by Nana Owiredu Wadie.
It is scheduled for completion within one year, with commissioning slated for November 2026 ahead of the climax of the 60th anniversary celebrations.
Nana Owiredu Wadie I, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting quality education and giving back to the school that helped shape his early development.
Eric Yeboah Wadie, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of National Lotteries Authority who spoke on behalf of the Wadie family stated that, the ultimate motivation for the project is to create access to 21st century education system Koforidua.

After the ground breaking ceremony, the 60th anniversary of the School was launched.
Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah Agyekum, Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese of the Catholic Church, recounted the humble beginnings of Madonna School, describing the early struggles of recruiting students and building basic infrastructure.
He recalled how the school began with only a few kindergarten and Class One pupils before land was secured for its first permanent structures.
He emphasized that Madonna School was built on the values of “Sacrifice, Service, and Success (SSS)”, and has, over the decades, trained thousands of students who now occupy professional roles across Ghana and abroad; including academicians, engineers, doctors, nurses, and other professionals.
The Bishop urged alumni to actively support the anniversary and contribute to sustaining the school’s legacy.
“As a Catholic institution, we place strong emphasis on formation, discipline, and value-based learning,” he said. “The character shaped here is visible throughout the lives of our students even as they progress to senior high schools and universities.”
The Principal of Madonna School, Rev. Sister Perpetual Owiredu, expressed deep gratitude to the pioneers, missionary sisters, founding priests, teachers, parents, and students whose sacrifices built the foundation of the school’s success.
She stressed that the school’s mission of providing holistic, morally grounded, and academically excellent education, which continues to produce responsible citizens and leaders.
“Our theme for the 60th anniversary calls us to ask how we prepare the next generation for tomorrow’s world while remaining anchored in faith, discipline, and service,” she said.
She thanked Most Rev. Bishop Afrifah Agyekum, the Nkosuohene, and the New Juaben Traditional Council for their unwavering support, describing the new JHS complex as a transformational investment in the future of the institution.
Omanhene of New Juaben Daasebre Kwaku Boateng II, who was chairman for the anniversary launch, commended the school for its instrumental role in shaping the academic future of many individuals in the traditional area.
“As a proud aluminus of the class of 1984, I am deeply privileged and humbled by this responsibility. Madonna school has been instrumental in shaping our lives, instilling values such as sacrifice, service and success that have had lasting impact on our journey. Whiles we acknowledge the school’s current position, this diamond Jubilee present opportunity to restore to its former glory and prepare Jr towards even a brighter future”. He stated.
An Early Childhood Development Center named after one of the pioneers of the school, Madam Akore was commissioned in her honour.
