The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly attempting to shield individuals under lawful investigation.
These comments come in the wake of another raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, by National Security operatives led by Director of Operations, Richard Jakpa.
Speaking on GHOne TV’s News Tonight with Emmanuel Agyebeng, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC who doubles as Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Foyo Gbande accused the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his colleagues of trying to undermine the investigation by making baseless allegations against officers carrying out lawful activities.
“We are dealing with serious security matters involving politically exposed individuals and sensitive institutions, which have resulted in significant losses in cedis and dollars, including the collapse of banks. This has led to the loss of businesses owned by private individuals. Therefore, when the state embarks on an operation, it is unjust to label such actions as unlawful. All that is required to enter an individual’s private property is a warrant. Whether executed during the day or night, it remains a lawful entry. So, why the outcry?”
“We lived in this country under previous administrations when other methods of persecuting individuals were employed. Where were all these scholars who are now ranting and quoting books? The minority should remain silent because the game has not even begun yet. We haven’t even started the process.”
“The Minority Leader’s time will come, and he will be held accountable. I believe they should remain quiet and allow the process to unfold. Anyone with questions to answer will do so.”
“Making unfounded allegations against National Security officials who are carrying out their lawful duties is inappropriate. Accusing them of accepting money without presenting any substantial evidence is wrong. It is a deliberate attempt to shield those under investigation.”
“These petty, unfounded allegations from the minority are simply an attempt to protect certain individuals. Where was the outcry when no one was harmed?” he added.
