Kumawu by-election: NDC raises alarm over pink sheet signed before end of poll

The opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has raised alarm over already signed pink sheet at the Oyoko Methodist polling station ahead of declaration of results in the ongoing Kumawu by-election.

According to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Augustus Nana Kwasi, their attention was drawn to the incident by the assistant polling agent who claimed that an official of the EC forced the NDC and NPP agents to sign contrary to what the Electoral Commission regulation says.

The EC is conducting the by-election in Kumawu following the death of the former MP, Philip Basoah in March 2023.

Speaking to Starr News, the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman demanded a change of the EC officer at the said polling station.

“We were doing monitoring and one of our agents alerted me that there was something going on here that is not right and so we rushed down her. To be honest with you, we’ve seen the declaration form signed. But what we know is that the declaration forms must be signed after the election. We have the pictures of these pink sheets, the EC officer has admitted that he ordered them to sign. But this is not part of the EC’s laws that declaration forms must be signed before voting ends.

So we are asking Jean Mensah to change the EC boss here right now, we don’t want any chaos here. This election is a do and die affair and so we’re not going to sit down and allow somebody to rig this election, we are very vigilante. It is early days and we don’t want any confusion. We are asking the IGP to come down and see what they are doing, we don’t want any violence here.”
