The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its plan to deliver a “true” State of the Nation Address on Tuesday.
According to the opposition party, President Mahama’s address failed to touch on critical issues such as the worsening power crisis, rising insecurity, increasing illegal mining activities, and the growing unemployment crisis.
But speaking to Starr News, Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, who also doubles as the NDC’s Deputy General Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, described the NPP’s actions as a deliberate attempt to sow mischief and disrupt government activities.
“The economic dialogue is aimed at finding solutions to our economic problems. If you have a political party whose members have ransacked the nation, defrauded it, shared its wealth, and stolen far more than they need, then for them to come out and hold a press conference, calling it the true state of the nation address, is an act of sheer incompetence. It’s a deliberate effort to punish the people of this country.
“That’s what we know, feel, and remember. So, when they come out like this, it’s nothing but a calculated attempt to distract the government and divert the people’s attention from the crucial economic dialogue the country is about to hold. It’s also a shameful excuse for them to avoid participating in that dialogue. Honestly, I don’t believe they have anything of value to contribute.”
“These are the very individuals who came together and destroyed this country. What President Mahama has omitted from the State of the Nation Address is that even after Ken Ofori-Atta has looted and stolen from this country, he still hasn’t given President Akufo-Addo his share. That’s the underlying issue within the NPP. And what they’ve left out is the fact that before December, they told the people of Ghana that they had built the Golden City and that everything was fine,” he added.
