Descendants of Mole-Dagbon Kingdom, comprising Mamprusis, Moshies, Dagombas, Nanumbas and Gonjas in Eastern Region have climaxed the celebration of Damba festival in Koforidua with a captivating display of their rich cultural heritage.

The festival was also attended by a delegation from the New Juaben Traditional Council that represented Omanhene Nana Kwaku Boateng III, and some government officials.

The Damba festival was used to promote peace among the various tribes and to add their voices for peace to prevail.

Eastern Regional Dagomba Chief, Chief Osman Adams and the Regional Moshie Chief Alhaji Abubakar Amadu Mohammed said protracted conflicts in the North are creating a bad image for people in the northern sector and also affecting development.

They believe the retarded development is fueling migration from the north to the south in spite of the abundant resources that can be tapped to develop the northern part of Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chief of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III, the Gyaasehene Nana Twumasi Dankwa entreated elders and parents in the Zongo communities to prioritize education of their children since education is weapon to break the quagmire of poverty and stimulate development.

Members of Parliament for New Juaben North and South Nana Adjei Boateng and Michael Okyere Baafi respectively were honoured with citations for enhancing peaceful coexistence and development in Zongo communities and minority groups.

The MCE for New Juaben South Hon. Ike Appaw Gyasi was installed as ‘Dzisong Naa’ to wit ‘Asetenapahene’ or a Good Neighbor.

According to the chiefs and organizers if the Damba Festival Isaac Appaw Gyasi is none-discriminatory, hardworking, promotes peaceful coexistence and ensures equity in development.

In an interview with the media, Isaac Appaw Gyasi thanked the Chiefs for recognizing hard work.

He said the Koforidua Zongo market is going to witness a facelift.

“We will help to promote such festivals to become a tourist hub. I am very happy about that .I am also very happy for the kingmakers, especially the Dagomba Chief for recognizing the hard work that His Excellency President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo through me is doing in the Zongo community. It is not going to end here.

“We are going to do more to bring many more development projects here. This market as you are seeing is going to be transformed. We are going to make it much big than you are seeing now so that a lot more people will come and trade here.”
