New Juaben South municipality in Eastern Region has been ranked overall fourth(4) best performing in 2022 district league table total and sectoral scores ranking released Thursday December 14,2023.

The Municipality scored 78.06 moving from 9th rank in 2021 to fourth place after scoring high in the multi sectorial assessment based on total scores which delineate the performance spectrum, ranging from 0-20 percent to 81-100 percent in sectors such as education, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, energy, governance, and child protection.

For instance the Municipality catapulted from the 102nd position in 2021 to an impressive 9th in terms of performance in education in the country in the latest District League Table report for the year 2022

The municipality also leaped from seven rank in 2021 to fourth in terms of performance in health in the latest report.

The Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South Isaac Appaw Gyasi said “the ranking is a reflection of effective utilization investment and policies made by President Akufo Addo and Dr. Bawumia led government. I want to also thank my Member of Parliament Michael Okyere Baafi who has been very supportive lobbying for lots of projects for the municipality “

Securing the top spot, Korle-Klottey Municipality in Eastern region leaped from 6th place in 2021 to claim the pinnacle with a stellar score of 85.82.

This substantial improvement positions the municipality as a frontrunner in the 2022 district league table.

Holding strong at 2nd place, Ayawaso West Municipality maintains its impressive performance with a score of 79.71.

Despite a shift from 1st to 3rd place, Tema Metropolis remains a powerhouse with a commendable score of 78.59.

Obuasi Municipality, despite a lower 2021 ranking at 43rd, surges forward to the 5th position with a score of 77.96. This leap showcases the district’s resilience and commitment to progress.

Claiming the 6th position, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis achieves a score of 77.41.

Tema Metropolis, Ayawaso West Municipality, Korle-Klottey Municipality, and New Juaben South Municipality maintain their strong presence in the top ten(10).

The top 10 MMDs witness notable improvements in their rankings, with Nandom Municipality making a substantial leap.

Asutifi North District’s historic entry into the top 10 underlines the dynamic nature of progress.

Korle-Klottey Municipality’s remarkable jump from 6th to 1st position in 2022 sparks intrigue, prompting a call for detailed investigation into the contributing factors.

The performance underscores the need for replicable strategies in other MMDs.

UNICEF, in collaboration with the National Development Planning Commission and partners, launched the District League Table (DLT) ReportReport on Thursday December 14,2023.

The report utilizes data analysis to monitor and evaluate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

“DLT serves as an effective instrument for assessing how Ghana’s development is distributed equitably across the country,” emphasized UNICEF Representative, Osama Khogali.

Over the years, it has proven to be a valuable tool, providing evidence to the Government of Ghana for decision-making in prioritizing districts that require additional attention and support in areas such as education, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, energy, governance, and child protection. This strategic focus aims to better support districts that may be lagging behind.

Hon. David Quaye Annang, Vice Chair of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), expressed, “It’s a clarion call for action and a roadmap that guides us towards a more equitable and inclusive society.”
