The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has condemned the gruesome murder of its Bongo District Manager, Mr. Mohammed Seidu Akugri, who was killed on Monday, May 19, 2025, in the Upper East Region.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the NHIA Executive Management expressed deep shock and sadness over the incident, describing Mr. Akugri as a “dedicated, hardworking, and highly respected” staff member who served the Authority and the people of Bongo with “distinction, commitment, and integrity.”
“The Authority strongly condemns this unfortunate and heinous act and calls on the Ghana Police Service and other relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice,” the statement said.

According to the NHIA, a delegation has been dispatched to support the bereaved family and staff at the Bongo District Office during this period of mourning. The Authority also assured that it is collaborating with law enforcement to aid in investigations.
Executive Management extended its condolences to the family, colleagues, and all who knew Mr. Akugri, adding, “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
