The New Patriotic Party (NPP) goes to the polls today, Saturday, October 3, 2026, to elect its national executives at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The election forms part of the party’s preparations towards the 2028 general elections, with 7,163 delegates expected to participate in the National Delegates Congress and Officers’ elections.
The congress will begin with consideration of proposed constitutional amendments at 9:00 a.m., while voting for national officers is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
Delegates will vote at 31 polling stations in elections covering nine national positions: National Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser, National Treasurer and National Communications Director.
The Electoral Commission (EC) will conduct the elections and verify delegates. Voters must be on the delegates’ register and present a Voter ID card, Ghana Card or NPP party card.
“The Electoral Commission (EC) will conduct the elections and verify every voter,” the party’s National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) stated.
The Ashanti Region has the highest number of delegates with 1,122, followed by Greater Accra with 773 and Eastern with 732. Savannah has the lowest with 184 delegates, followed by Western North with 223.
The congress is being held in two parts, with constitutional amendments forming part of the agenda alongside the election of national officers.
The exercise is expected to shape the party’s leadership as it prepares for the 2028 elections.
