The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo has threatened to name and shame officials at the district level who fail to ensure streets in their districts are well lit.

Speaking at the 2026 meeting of the Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister expressed frustration that despite the distribution of lighting infrastructure, many streets remain dark.

“I will also begin calling out specific assemblies responsible for affected areas when these issues arise in the media so that accountability is clearly established and that distinct action can be taken. I believe sufficient support has been provided, and it is now important that we all demonstrate the required level of responsibility,” she said.

She further directed all MMDCEs to conduct an urgent audit and collaborate with the Ministry of Energy to ensure safety during night times.”

”Going forward, I will also begin calling out specific assemblies responsible for affected areas when these issues arise… honestly, the insult on me is too much…,” she said.

The Minister further lamented that she’s unhappy with the performance of some of the MMDCEs and would not hesitate to sanction them.

“Some of you are relaxed. When the place is dark, the only name that comes in is the Regional Minister. I beg of you…,” she appealed.

She also encouraged the MMDCES yo make use of “all the resources at their disposal and do the needful.”
