NDC Communication Team Member Julius Karl D. Fieve has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of increasingly relying on insults and allegations rather than presenting policies and ideas to Ghanaians.
Speaking to Isaac Addae on The Verdict on Starr FM, Mr Fieve said the NPP’s approach since losing power contrasts with what he described as the NDC’s efforts to reorganise, rebrand and make the party more attractive to young people after losing power in 2016.
According to him, the NDC used its time in opposition to focus on rebuilding the party instead of concentrating on attacks against political opponents.
He argued that the NPP, after losing power, had taken a different approach, with its activities increasingly centred on insults and allegations.
“After four years, we won massively, the biggest, the widest margin in the history of Ghana, maybe after 1992. But the NPP went into an opposite, losing power abysmally. And all they’re doing is insult,” he said.
Mr Fieve also questioned the NPP’s handling of allegations surrounding the country’s drug menace, particularly claims about alleged cocaine manufacturing laboratories in Ghana.
He cited the Minority Leader’s reported description of the laboratory claim as a metaphor, questioning the basis for making such allegations.
“the Minority Leader came out to say that it’s a metaphor. I mean, is this party a party of intellectuals?” he asked.
Mr Fieve stress that political parties should focus on presenting their policies and ideas to the electorate rather than building their political communication around allegations and personal attacks.
“NPP’s current approach could affect how the party is perceived as it remains in opposition”. He said.
