The flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has criticized the Akufo-Addo government for suspending road construction projects in parts of the Bono East region under the Cocoa Roads initiative which were underway during his administration.
After assuming office in 2017, the NPP government halted these projects and launched an audit into the awarding of the contracts.
Speaking during a community engagement at Amoma in the Kintampo South constituency, the former President accused the government of discriminatory practices and pledged to address the poor state of the roads in the area if elected in the upcoming December 7 elections.
“We’re all Ghanaians and that is why we introduced the Cocoa Roads Initiative which was extended here in Amoma so that when roads are constructed, it can allow for easy passage of trucks to transport cashew. We can then export it to generate revenue. So when we come into office, we will continue all these roads.
“In 2020, they brought machines here on the roads. As soon as the election was over, they withdrew them. Now we see that in the lead-up to this election, there is a contractor on the road. I know that it is highly unlikely that they will complete work; it is the NDC that will continue with it,” Mr. Mahama said at a rally as part of his tour of the Bono East Region.
The NDC Leader’s campaign is now in the Kintampo South Constituency as the December polls fast approach.
