The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for presidential aspirants ahead of its primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, in accordance with Article 13 of the party’s constitution.
The nomination window opened today, Monday, July 29, 2025, and will close on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
A statement signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, announced that interested aspirants must pay a non-refundable application fee of GH₵100,000 to obtain nomination forms, and a filing fee of GH₵500,000.
Both payments must be made via a banker’s draft addressed to the NPP National Headquarters in Accra. In addition, aspirants are required to pay a compulsory development levy, the amount of which will be determined by the National Council.
Mr. Kodua emphasized that nomination forms can be picked up from the Office of the General Secretary during the nomination period.
A portion of the statement noted, “Any Member of the Party wishing to apply for Nomination as the Party’s Presidential Candidate shall obtain the Nomination Forms after paying a non-refundable Nomination Fee of One Hundred Thousand Cedis (GHe100,000) in Bankers Draft in favour of the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA.”
“The Filing Fee for the Presidential Nomination is Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc500,000) to be paid in Bankers Draft in favour of the NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, ACCRA.”
He also disclosed that all campaign activities by presidential aspirants have been temporarily suspended until after the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
This, he noted, is to allow the party to direct its full attention and resources toward retaining the Akwatia parliamentary seat.
The announcement sets in motion the process of selecting a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, and several prominent party figures have already signaled their intention to contest.
Among them is former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi and former Minister of Food and Agriculture.
