President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to the cause of African unity, dignity, and self-determination.
Speaking at the ongoing African Union High-Level Dialogue on Democracy, Governance, and Human Rights in Accra, President Mahama, who also serves as the AU Champion on Reparative Justice, highlighted Ghana’s historical and present role in advancing Pan-African ideals.
He recalled the legacy of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, describing it as a foundation for the country’s continued leadership in championing Africa’s sovereignty and democratic development.
“Ghana is honoured to contribute to this continental vision; from the bold Pan-African ideals of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, our first president, to our current engagement on reparative justice and democratic consolidation,” Mahama stated.
He stressed that Ghana remains at the forefront of the struggle for African dignity and unity:
“Ghana has always stood at the forefront of the struggle for African dignity, unity, and self-determination. We believe that unity is our historical imperative and our most effective instrument for achieving justice and prosperity.”
President Mahama further added that “the Ghanaian people remain committed to building a continent where no one is left behind and every voice is heard and valued.”
The dialogue forms part of efforts by the African Union to advance democratic values and strengthen good governance and human rights on the continent.
