Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the party is determined to rescue Ghanaians from what he described as poor governance by the John Dramani Mahama administration.
His remarks come after the successful conclusion of the NPP presidential primaries, which saw Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerge as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, February 2, Ahiagbah praised the peaceful conduct of the primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
“Our appreciation to the Ghana Police Service in order and the Electoral Commission as well for a very disciplined conduct… they contributed greatly to making a very peaceful process,” he said.
He added that delegates were clear in their verdict, prioritizing unity and the party’s core mission.
“Going forward they want unity. They want the party to focus on the main objective of the party’s existence, which is to win political power,” Ahiagbah said.
Criticizing the current administration, he highlighted the high cost of living, rising fuel prices, and other economic challenges.
Ahiagbah stressed that the NPP aims to offer Ghanaians a clear alternative, reclaim political power, and address the hardships facing citizens.
“Going forward, we represent a better alternative for Ghanaians and also… to ensure that we hold this government accountable for the pain it’s causing from the failed promises and the harsh environment it is creating,” he said, noting that statements about inflation or currency performance do not always reflect improvements in the cost of living.
