NPP primaries: Akwatia deserves an MP who can market it to investors

A private legal practitioner, Kwame Owiredu Donkor, aspiring as Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party says it time the constituency gets a Member of Parliament with the competence to strategically market the area to the world.

According to him, Parliamentary work in Africa keeps evolving from mere lawmaking to advocacy and being a development agent, therefore one’s ability to vociferously highlight the plight of the constituents and lobby for development culminate in improving living standards of the people.

Mr. Owiredu Donkor said on Thursday, February 20, 2020 when he filed nomination form in his quest to contest the Parliamentary Primaries to unseat the incumbent MP Mercy Adu Gyamfi alias Ama Sey, a Professional Hairdresser seeking reelection for a second term tenure of office.

“Election is expression of opinion,  as for me my vision is to market Akwatia to the world to attract investors. Also,  I’m electoral area coordinator so I live with the delegates I know their problems so I am a grassroots person”

He added “If you are a parliamentarian, it is basically three concept -you are a lawmaker, an advocate that is speaking on behalf of your people for swift attention to their plight and lastly as MP you are agent for development”

Kwame Owiredu Donkor hails from Akyem Kusi in the Denkyembour district. He has served the New Patriotic Party right from campus.

He is currently the coordinator for Kusi electoral area. He was the polling agent for the party in the 2016 general elections and sponsored the party and the incumbent Member of Parliament Mercy Ama Sey by ‘adopting a polling station ’ which he went all out to maximize votes in both Presidential and Parliamentary election.

“In 2015, Hon. Ama Sey emerged victorious in the primaries. We put our shoulders to the wheel, I, for instance, was a polling agent. Some of us supported her financially and with human resource to campaign for her”

Lawyer Donkor started his education at Oil Palm Research Institute at Opri Kusi and completed OPRI JHS in 1999. He then went to Achimota Senior High School where he studied Elective Science and completed in 2002, and subsequently continued to the University of Ghana and graduated with BSc. in chemistry.

After his national service in 2009 he went back to the University of Ghana where he obtained his LLB from 2009 to 2011, then to the law school in 2011. Lawyer Owiredu Donkor was called into the bar in October 2013, and has since gained seven years’ experience as a lawyer.

He is currently the PRO for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Marketers Association.
