The National Youth Authority (NYA) has expressed deep grief over the tragic deaths of six y youths during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise.
In a statement released on Wednesday, November 13, 2025, the NYA confirmed that the incident occurred prior to the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on November 12.
“The Board and Management of the National Youth Authority, together with the entire youth of Ghana, is grieved by the terrible stampede… which claimed the lives of six (6) promising youth,” the statement said.
The Authority described the incident as “heartbreaking” and urged all Ghanaian youth to join in reflection and solidarity during this difficult period.
“Let us keep the spirit of unity as we navigate this difficult moment together,” the statement added.
NYA also reiterated its commitment to empowering the youth across the country despite the tragedy, and called on all Ghanaians to honour the memory of the deceased and support affected families during this challenging time.
The stampede occurred around 6:20 a.m. when a surge of applicants breached security protocols and rushed the gates ahead of the scheduled screening. Medical teams transported the injured to the 37 Military Hospital, where 12 are reported in critical condition and five are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
In response to the tragedy, the Ghana Armed Forces suspended the recruitment exercise to review safety protocols.
