President John Dramani Mahama has tasked Maripoma Enterprise Limited, the contractors on the Ofankor–Nsawam road project, to deliver durable work and keep to the revised completion timeline.
The President, who inspected the site on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, alongside the Roads Minister, Governs Agbodza, stressed that the government would honour its financial obligations but expected the contractors to match that with speed and quality.

“As the government commits to paying you well, you too must commit to moving faster on the road and also use quality materials. One of the major problems with road contractors in this country is the quality of materials,” he told the contractors.
The Ofankor–Nsawam project, which began in July 2022 under the Akufo-Addo administration, has suffered repeated delays, including a four-month suspension earlier this year over funding concerns.

Originally scheduled for completion in July 2024, the deadline has since been extended multiple times, frustrating commuters who endure daily gridlock.
Chief Resident Engineer Ing. Kwabena Bimpong assured the President that the dual carriage road would be ready by the second quarter of 2026.
Mr. Mahama welcomed the assurance but urged the contractors to also ease traffic congestion during the construction period.

“I can see that drivers are happy now, and I hope that from now till you finish the project, you will maintain a smooth flow of traffic even as you are working so that you don’t impede the flow of traffic,” he said while addressing the contractors,” he said.
