CEO of the National Youth Authority and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osman Ayariga, has issued a strong warning to political opponents during the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Speaking to the media, Ayariga declared the party’s readiness to defend the integrity of the election and protect its supporters if challenged, emphasizing that the NDC is committed to peace but will not tolerate provocation.
“We are here for peace, but if anyone tries to stir up trouble, we will meet them with equal force – or even more,” he said. “From now until the close of polls at 5 p.m., we are watching closely.”
He noted that the NDC had activated body cameras and stationed personnel on the ground to monitor the situation. “We’ve activated all our body cams. All eyes and ears are alert on the ground,” Ayariga stated. “If we hear even a whisper of provocation – if we hear ‘ka’ – they will hear from us. But we do not come in violence; we come in peace.”
Despite his stern warning, Ayariga acknowledged the efforts of the Ghana Police Service in maintaining order at the polling stations. “I want to thank the police for doing their best to keep the situation calm. We are proud of you. May peace be with you,” he added.
He concluded with a clear message about the party’s vigilance. “We are watching. We are guarding the ballot boxes. We are guarding everything. We want this process to be fair, but we will not allow anyone to take us for granted.”
The Electoral Commission (EC) is conducting the rerun in 19 polling stations following inconclusive results in the December 2024 general elections. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) had initially contested the need for the rerun but is participating following a court dismissal of their injunction attempt. The rerun is expected to restore parliamentary representation to the constituency.
