In light of upcoming parliamentary proceedings, the Office of the Deputy Marshal of Parliament has announced a set of stringent security measures aimed at ensuring the safety of the Rt Hon Speaker, Members of Parliament (MPs), parliamentary staff, and the press.

According to a release signed by the Deputy Marshal of Parliament, WG Cdr Frederick Bawa (Rtd), the enhanced protocols will come into effect from Tuesday, October 22, 2024. The measures include thorough screening of all individuals entering the Chamber, including MPs, staff, and members of the press.

Additionally, MPs’ bodyguards will not be permitted inside the Chamber, and vehicles will be prohibited from parking near the Grand Arena. To manage access, MPs are required to use designated drop-off zones within the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) precincts, with assistance and directions provided by the Ghana Police Service.

All MPs are reminded to wear their parliamentary identification tags for easy verification, and access to the Chamber will be granted from 8:00 AM. As part of the new measures, the public will not be permitted access to the public gallery until further notice.

The announcement emphasizes that these steps are essential to maintain the security and smooth functioning of the parliamentary proceedings, and all involved are expected to cooperate fully with the new protocols.
