The Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly possessing 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The suspect, identified as Roger Borbobli, was arrested on October 29, 2026, by officers from the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
According to a police statement, the arrest followed intelligence that the suspect had been spotted at the terminal with three suitcases containing the suspected narcotic substances.
Preliminary investigations indicate that some loading boys at the terminal detected an unusual smell coming from the suitcases and alerted the Police.
A team of officers subsequently proceeded to the scene, arrested Borbobli and retrieved the three suitcases, which contained 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect reportedly valued the substances at GH¢33,600.
During interrogation, Borbobli told investigators that he was a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta North Region.
He allegedly disclosed that although he cultivated Indian hemp himself, the parcels found in his possession had been acquired from another farmer identified as Benjamin, also from the same community.
The Police said the exhibits would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for analytical examination and a report.
Borbobli remains in Police custody, assisting with investigations, and is expected to be put before the court to face justice.
