The Ghana Police Service has arrested New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist Daniel Adomako, widely known on social media as Sir Obama Pokuase, in connection with the illegal possession and public display of sophisticated firearms.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, by the Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the arrest was carried out earlier in the day through a joint intelligence-led operation involving the Police and other security agencies.
Mr. Adomako is accused of circulating videos and images on social media showing individuals openly brandishing high-grade, illegally acquired weapons. He is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The operation forms part of a broader security crackdown targeting criminal networks engaged in the unlawful possession, trafficking, and display of sophisticated arms.
Authorities say the months-long effort has already resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of illegal firearms and ammunition.
“His arrest is part of ongoing intelligence-led operations by the Police and other security agencies aimed at dismantling networks involved in the illegal possession and display of sophisticated weapons. He is assisting investigations into some images and videos he circulated on social media depicting individuals openly brandishing these illegally acquired sophisticated weapons.”
In a related case, three other individuals — Prince Ofori, Yayra Abiwu, and Emmanuel Kwakye — have also been detained over alleged threats of death and the publication of false information linked to the recent helicopter crash.
The Police Service has reiterated its commitment to combating crime and curbing the spread of illegal arms across the country.
It has also urged the public to provide credible information to support ongoing operations, assuring that all investigations will follow due process.
