Police investigators at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region have retrieved 10 empty AK-47 rifle shells at the scene of a deadly shooting incident that claimed the lives of three persons on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
The use of this dangerous,high -grade weapons in what appears to be a targeted attack is concerning to the public.
The victims — Mohammed Wanto, 47; Abubakar Abdullah, 55; and Abubakar Mohammed, 56 — believed to be members of the Fulani community, were ambushed while resting at Vertinary shop by unknown, masked assailants who opened fire without warning.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the attackers fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene, leaving behind the spent rifle shells which were later picked up by police crime scene officers.
The Nkawkaw Police has since conveyed the bodies to the morgue for autopsy while one injured victim is receiving medical care at a health facility.
Municipal Chief Executive for Nkawkaw, Hon. Tamimu Halidu, who is chairman of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and police officials,who visited the scene expressed deep worry over the use of assault rifles in the attack.
The MCE stressed the urgent need to enhance security surveillance in the municipality.
“We need CCTV cameras in these areas so I am writing to the Minister of Communication to help us in this regard”.said the MCE.
Sources suggest the attack may be linked to a dispute within the Fulani community, though the exact motive remains under investigation.
This is third of such similar incident among the Fulani community in the last four years in Nkawkaw.
Authorities are calling for calm and public cooperation as the police continue with their investigations and hunt for the armed assailants.
