Police officers on duty at Nkurakan Police barrier in Eastern Region have intercepted a commercial vehicle transporting building materials from government funded project site in Ghana Senior High School (GHANASS) to unknown destination.
The incident happened Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Nkurakan Police barrier. Officers on duty – Inspector Daniel Akuvie, Inspector Sharon Annan, Coporal Solomon Kudoahor, Corporal Evans Adjei
and Constable Inkoom Michael became suspicious when the vehicle with registration number GT 4730-16 approached the barrier with building materials; including toilet seats, tiles, plywood, and galvanized wire mesh; were hidden under seats, in the boot, and on the roof of the vehicle.
When questioned, the driver and a passenger claiming to be a foreman gave inconsistent answers and failed to produce a waybill.

An unidentified person spoke to the police on phone and instructed the two police officers to release the vehicle and the items, threatened that the IGP is his “father”, therefore shouldn’t joke with the matter.
The two police officers became more suspicious, escorted and impounded the vehicle at the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters.
The driver and the foreman were arrested to assist investigation but later granted bail.
The Headmistress of GHANASS is alleged to have told police investigators that the items were being sent to Oti Region on instructions of the contractor to be used for another project.
When contacted on phone, the contractor corroborated but said was in a meeting that could not report at the police station for further investigation.
But sources in the school indicate that the vehicle used unapproved route to exit the school after loading the items, raising more suspicion.
In 2018, a Senior matron in the school, Comfort Oduro Bruce, and a Ghana Education Service driver, Alfred Kumi, were fined GHS17,600 by Koforidua Circuit Court for stealing food items meant for the school.
