The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged all political parties and stakeholders attending the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday 1st October 2024 to present evidence and data to support any concerns they may have about discrepancies in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
According to the EC, this evidence-based approach will facilitate a collaborative resolution of any outstanding issues with the register.
In a brief statement issued on Monday, 30 September 2024, the EC disclosed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has failed to present any evidence for their call for a forensic audit of the PVR.
“The EC remains committed to working with all stakeholders to address any discrepancies in the PVR through constructive dialogue at IPAC,” the statement assured.
However, the Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Omane Boamah has called on the EC to permit live media broadcasts of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting set for October 1, 2024.
In a Facebook post dated September 30, 2024, Dr. Boamah stressed the need for transparency, advocating for Ghanaians to be updated on the discussions as they happen.
“The EC must allow the media to provide live coverage of the proceedings at the IPAC meeting,” he stated, noting that this would help prevent misinformation and ensure that accurate information reaches the public.
He also highlighted the NDC’s demand for a forensic audit of the voters’ register and its IT systems, asserting that such issues cannot be fully resolved in the IPAC meeting. Boamah revealed ongoing problems with the register, despite the EC’s recent corrections, stating, “The truth is, #EAGLEEYES intercepted information shows as at yesterday, the Electoral Commission was still struggling to resolve voters whose names are still missing from the voters register.”
