President John Dramani Mahama has called on the youth of Ghana to seize the opportunity presented by the newly launched One Coders Programme, describing it as a transformative initiative that could redefine the country’s technological and economic landscape.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the programme in Accra, President Mahama said the initiative lays the groundwork for a new economy powered by innovation, digital skills, and entrepreneurship.
“We’re changing the national narrative from one of limitations to one of limitless potential,” he declared. “From a country that consumes imported technologies to a country that creates its own. From young people waiting for jobs to young people creating jobs.”
The One Coders Programme is designed to equip thousands of Ghanaian youth with coding and digital skills, aiming to foster a generation of tech-savvy entrepreneurs and professionals capable of building solutions for local and global markets.
President Mahama urged the youth to see the initiative as a launchpad into the future, stressing the vital role they play in shaping Ghana’s digital destiny. “To the youth of Ghana, I say this program is for you. Take it and own it. Let this be your launchpad into innovation, entrepreneurship, and global relevance,” he said. “You’re not just participants in this initiative. You are the architects of Ghana’s digital future.”
He also extended his gratitude to development partners and stakeholders for their belief in Ghana’s potential and for supporting efforts to empower its people.
“To our partners, current and future, we thank you for believing in Ghana and investing in our people,” he said. “Your support amplifies our efforts and accelerates our progress.”
The President commended the Ministry of Communications and its leadership for the swift and strategic implementation of the programme, highlighting its alignment with the government’s broader agenda for digital transformation and job creation.
“You’ve not only brought a manifesto promise to life, you have ignited hope in millions of young Ghanaian hearts,” he said.
As Ghana positions itself in the global digital economy, the One Coders Programme is expected to be a key pillar in building a resilient, innovative, and future-ready nation.
