Law lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Kwadwo Appiagyei-Atua, has urged the Attorney General and Minister for Justice to ensure that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) fulfils its mandate in the process to extradite former Finance Minister, Kenneth Ofori-Atta to Ghana.
This follows revelations from the Attorney General’s Department about its inability to access the case docket from the OSP, a situation said to be delaying plans to initiate the extradition.
Speaking to Tutuwaa Danso on Starr Today, Prof. Appiagyei-Atua called on the Attorney General to ensure that due process is followed.
“The Office of the Special Prosecutor operates under the Office of the Attorney General, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem for the Attorney General to access the necessary information. However, since the case file is with the OSP, they would likely have conducted most of the investigation and gathered the critical evidence needed to move the case forward.

If there appears to be a lack of interest or inaction from the OSP, then it becomes the responsibility of the Attorney General to ensure that the OSP fulfils its mandate. That is the approach the Attorney General’s office should take in handling this matter,” he said.
Meanwhile, anti-graft campaigner, Edem Senanu, has called on both institutions to collaborate and work in harmony to ensure progress on the case.
