A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Prof. Benedicta Yayra Fosu-Mensah, has rejected claims that the current administration is incompetent, citing improvements in key economic indicators and fuel prices.
Speaking during an interview with Lily Mohammed on GHToday on GHOne TV on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Prof. Benedicta Yayra Fosu-Mensah challenged comments by New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communicator, Ellen Ama Daaku, who had criticised the government.
“An incompetent government today, we have inflation less than four percent. An incompetent government that has maintained the cedi below 11 cedis to a dollar, you call this an incompetent government?” she quizzed.
She further argued that fuel prices have reduced significantly, asking how such developments could be associated with incompetence.
“An incompetent government that today, you, Helen, when you go to the fuel station, you do not buy fuel at 23 cedis per litre, you call this incompetent? I mean, this is laughable. Let’s not just pretend that because of politics, we want to do propaganda,” she stated.
Prof. Fosu-Mensah also addressed issues surrounding an allegation that scholarships were being sold, insisting that due process must be followed.
“The fact that somebody raised an allegation and they are saying that the person should come and prove the allegation, the person that they have alleged to be selling scholarships should be investigated. As a citizen, I’m not supposed to applaud that person,” she said.
She recalled past allegations of corruption under previous administrations, stating that the current government has demonstrated a commitment to fighting corruption.
“This is a president that frowns on corruption. His office, his secretary has asked that there should be an investigation into an allegation that has been made,” she noted.
While questioning the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the individual who made the allegation, Prof. Fosu-Mensah said she believed the person would be required to provide further information to assist security agencies in their investigations.
She maintained that calling the government intolerant or incompetent in the face of ongoing investigations and improving economic conditions was unjustified.
“How do you call that incompetent?” she asked, insisting that governance should not be reduced to partisan propaganda.
