President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his pride in the historic election of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s first female Vice President-elect, calling it a significant milestone for the country.
Speaking at the Jubilee House alongside President-elect John Mahama, President Akufo-Addo congratulated Professor Opoku-Agyemang for her achievement, which he described as a matter of national pride and an inspiring example for women across the country.
“First of all, to congratulate him on his remarkable victory and to wish him and his administration the very best of luck. We have, for the first time in our lives, elected a female vice-president of the country and that is a matter that should be celebrated by all of us.
The outgoing president took the opportunity to offer his full support, both personally and on behalf of his government, to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition of power.
He assured the President-elect, John Mahama, and his team that the transition process would be carried out in the best interest of the nation.
Acknowledging the importance of the transition, President Akufo-Addo remarked that the peaceful handover of power is a testament to Ghana’s strong democratic institutions and the country’s respect for the rule of law.
“Today’s transition is not only a celebration of Ghana’s democratic credentials but also a recognition of the country’s ability to conduct smooth and orderly transitions of power,” he said
