Executive Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 13th African Games, Dr Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, has urged the media team of the event to portray the event positively.
Ghana is set to host the first-ever games, featuring 3,500 athletes from 54 African countries, from March 8 to 23, 2024.
According to Dr Ofosu-Asare, promoting a positive image for the games could aid the sponsorship drive and also bolster Ghana’s image as a great sporting country.
“This project is our project and the entire country’s project. Our forefathers didn’t get the chance to host the African Games, but this is our time.
“What are we doing to help Ghana successfully host its first African games ever? The world is watching us, and the slightest thing we put out thus affects the image of the game.
Dr. Ofosu-Asare highlighted the significant economic benefits of the upcoming games, citing the large number of athletes expected.
Deputy Chief Operating Officer Rex Brobby revealed a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about the games.
The Former Olympian announced the unveiling of the Games theme song on December 22, followed by a float with “Di Asa” Ladies through some principal towns.
He stated that they will plan to participate in the Masquerade festival in Takoradi from December 23-25 to raise funds for the games, and attend a church service on December 31.
