Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu says government is moving to fulfill its manifesto pledge to provide teacher bungalows, revealing that a proposal is currently under review to deliver 50,000 housing units for teachers nationwide.
Speaking at a press briefing on the 2026 budgetary allocation to the Ministry, the Tamale South legislator disclosed that the initiative will be jointly funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund, GETFund and Teacher Pension Funds, creating a coordinated push to address teachers’ accommodation challenges.
According to him, the project forms part of government’s commitment to improving teacher welfare and improve education delivery across the country.
He said, ” And then on Teachers Bangalow, as you recall in the manifesto we promised ‘Teacher Dabre’, it was one of President Mahama’s flagship pledges to the Ghanaian people. I’m currently reviewing a paper and a proposal from the District Assembly Common Fund, GetFund, GSOP, the pension fund of the teachers and the teachers union, we intend to embark on a provision of 50,000 housing units for teachers.
The administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund was in Morocco a while ago, a few weeks ago, to engage with some of their partners.
What we need is to identify what the funding mechanism would be for the delivery of it.”
