Dr. Abubakari Sidick Ahmed, a distinguished figure in Ghana’s media and academic circles, is set to be honoured with a grand retirement celebration.
The event, themed “The Touchdown,” will take place at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana at 6:00 PM and is strictly by invitation.
Dr. Ahmed has dedicated over two decades to nurturing talent at Radio Univers, the campus-based radio station of the University of Ghana . His commitment to mentoring young broadcasters has left an indelible mark on the media landscape in Ghana.
The upcoming celebration aims to recognize Dr. Ahmed’s significant contributions to media education and his role in shaping the careers of many in the industry. Colleagues, former students, and media professionals are expected to attend the event to pay tribute to his enduring legacy.
Albert Quashigah, Esq, Chairperson of the Central Planning Committee, spoke on the significance of the occasion: “When people, despite the odds, dedicate themselves to influencing their communities as did Alhaji, we, those he directly impacted, have to recognise him while it is still possible… We either do it now, or we lose the opportunity. Under his embracing arms, we learned and built our confidence.”
Mr. Quashigah also expressed deep appreciation for the 16-member planning committee, highlighting the broader importance of celebrating such a legacy.
“This single act of recognition would encourage others to shine in their respective little or big corners.”
As the curtain falls on Dr. Sidick Ahmed’s era at Radio Univers, “The Touchdown” promises to be more than a retirement party—it will be a moment to enshrine the legacy of a mentor, visionary, and selfless servant. His impact, colleagues say, will echo far beyond the walls of Radio Univers, inspiring generations to come.
The event is expected to be filled with heartfelt tributes, reflections, and a collective expression of gratitude for a career that has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s media and academic community.
