The Greater Accra Regional Hospital has confirmed an assault on one of its security officers, describing the incident as “deeply regrettable.”
According to hospital management, the attack occurred on February 18, 2026, at approximately 7:28 p.m. at the Labour Ward entrance.
The victim, a security guard on duty, had instructed an 18-year-old visitor, Gabriel Dimson, who was accompanying his mother and a friend, to move to the reception area. Standing at the ward entrance outside approved visiting hours is not permitted.
“[The] suspect refused to comply with the directive and proceeded to push the officer to the ground and physically assaulted him,” the hospital stated.
The officer fell unconscious but was immediately attended to by doctors on duty and is currently admitted and responding to treatment.
The matter was reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command, and the suspect has been arrested. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities will pursue prosecution.
Hospital management emphasized that violence against staff will not be tolerated.
“Our security officers play a critical role in enforcing Hospital policies designed to protect patients, visitors, and healthcare workers,” the statement said, urging the public to respect hospital guidelines and visiting protocols to maintain a safe environment.
