Rural Farmer Care Initiative and Agoo FM donate sanitary pads & educate teenagers on menstrual hygiene

In a collaborative effort between the Rural Farmer Care Initiative (RFCI) and EIB Network’s Agoo FM, an initiative has been launched to promote proper hygiene and education among girls in Kwahu.

As part of this initiative, the RFCI and Agoo FM have generously donated sanitary pads worth thousands of Ghana cedis to several schools in Kwahu.

The primary goal of this partnership is to ensure that teenage girls have a comprehensive understanding of menstrual hygiene while also providing support to those in need.

During the International Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, 2023, the RFCI organized an event in Kwahu Adawso.

During the event, the schoolgirls were educated about menstrual hygiene practices, including how to properly wear and change sanitary pads.

They were also provided with essential information on dos and don’ts during their menstruation period, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness throughout the process.

Bartholomew Sey, the coordinator for the Rural Farmer Care Initiative, spoke to Agoo FM, expressing the organization’s mission to educate schoolgirls about menstrual hygiene and provide them with the necessary sanitary pads to support them during their menstruation.

Sey also highlighted the significant number of approximately 3,000 girls in the Kwahu South Municipality who require such education and support.

Sey expressed gratitude to their partners, Agoo FM and Days for Girls, for their valuable support. However, he also appealed to other NGOs and philanthropic organizations to provide further assistance so that they can extend their reach and impact more school girls.

Mr. Asante Joseph, the PTA Chairman for Adawso Presby Basic School and Vice Chairman of the Unit Committee in Adawso, commended the RFCI and its partners for their educational efforts and donations.

He also requested that future programs consider including boys, as they too require education on personal hygiene. Joseph pointed out instances where boys have been observed wearing the same boxer shorts for extended periods, emphasizing the need for broader hygiene education.

Following the program, several schoolgirls from Adawso Presby Basic School expressed heartfelt gratitude to the RFCI and its partners for the education and donations. They requested more programs and donations to further enhance their educational experiences.

The event was attended by 30 schoolgirls from Adawso Presby Basic School, marking a successful and impactful initiative to promote menstrual hygiene and education in the Kwahu region.
