Santol Energy, one of Ghana’s burgeoning Oil Marketing Companies, is set to organize an intensive health screening exercise for all tanker drivers at the Tema Oil Refinery.

The exercise which will take place at the OMC car park of the Tema Oil Refinery in September is to help provide quality health for tanker drivers who play an instrumental role in the petroleum downstream sector.

Among other things, the screening will take care of the eyes, blood pressure, blood group, sugar levels, diabetes, hypertension, sickle cell status of the drivers.

“Most of the drivers do not normally have time for check-ups. They are so absorbed in their work that their health becomes secondary to them. As a company that has the well being of our stakeholders at heart, we want to embark on this health screening exercise to bring the hospital closer to our drivers.

‘With the rise of glaucoma and cataract, hypertension, diabetes we deem it appropriate to have this exercise for them so that they will know their health status and take appropriate action,” the marketing manager of Santol Energy Michael Issifu Wepeba said in an interview.

According to him, depending on the severity of the health status, a driver will be referred to the appropriate health institution for a comprehensive check up.

The health screening, he said, is part of a major corporate social responsibility to be undertaken by Santol Energy.

“As a company, our interest is not only to make profit. The welfare of our customers, workers and other stakeholders are of profound interest to us as well.

“We demonstrate this through the prices at which we sell our products which are the lowest in the market and our safety regime exercised at our sales outlets are phenomenal” he added.

Santol Energy only recently received an ISO International certification for its business activities which underlines the credibility of its operations right from safety measures, customer satisfaction, human resource management and sales operations.

Michael Issifu Wepeba said the health screening exercise is in line with meeting the international standards of safety not just for their workers but for others who are within the petroleum downstream value chain.

On her part, the Administrator at Santol Energy, said “we take health and safety very critical. We make sure that our operations are conducted with minimal or no incident to our workers and clients.”

She added, the health screening exercise is the first of many corporate social responsibility activities the company will embark on.

As one of the local companies in the country, Ms Asare believes it is about time for indigenous companies in the mining and oil sub-sector to be empowered under the local content law and be given a fair share of contracts which she said will have a positive impact on the economy.

Incorporated in 2017, Santol Energy is emerging as one of the trusted oil marketing companies operating with safety and integrity as its hallmark.

The company provides quality assurance products, including ultra low sulphur diesel, super, RFO at the most competitive prices in the market.

The company has outlets within the Tema enclave and parts of the country.
