The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Savelugu Constituency has condemned Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who also serves as Deputy Minister for Transport, over her alleged interference in the constituency’s politics and public endorsement of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Savelugu.
In a statement signed by Nyaba Abass, Communications Officer for the Savelugu NDC, the party said Affo-Toffey “graced a launching occasion organized by the opposition member of Parliament for Savelugu with a complete disregard to the constituency structures of the party she represents in parliament and in government.”
The statement alleged that at the event:
- Affo-Toffey was captured on video saying the NPP MP “deserve[s] a second chance for doing what she did.”
- She reportedly supported the NPP MP’s foundation with GH₵100,000, adding, “knock on my doors any day, any time for support.”
- She allegedly stated she doesn’t believe in party colours.
- She reportedly undermined President Mahama’s judgment in appointing her, saying, “I am in my second term, and I have not even done what Hajia Fatahiya has done.”
The NDC accused the Deputy Minister of “a direct affront to the fortunes of the NDC and boosting the prospects of the New Patriotic Party in the Constituency.”
The statement noted that the NPP MP she allegedly endorsed had previously hindered NDC operations in Savelugu, including denying the party access to fertilizer, venues for party activities, and key infrastructure contracts.
The Savelugu NDC demanded an explanation and apology from Affo-Toffey, urging her to return to the constituency and meet with party members.
They also called for equivalent support—similar or exceeding the GH₵100,000 donated to the NPP MP—to be given to the NDC, and requested that the national leadership apply appropriate disciplinary action.
