In a rejoinder to a publication made on the Ghana News Agency portal and on GBC — signed by Mamaga Akua Sebea Nyabor VII, Paramount Queen Mother of the Akrofu Traditional Area in the Volta Region — reportedly alleging that some individuals are illegally parading themselves with self-assigned titles such as “Ag. Paramount Chief,” “Paramount Queen Mother,” “Fiator,” and “Afetorfia,” the Akrofu youth have described the claims as false and should be disregarded.
According to the Akrofu youth, led by Mr. Forgive Segbedeku, the traditional leadership titles in question have existed for many years with established legal succession protocols to the throne. They argue that the titles mentioned in the publication predate the Akrofu Traditional Council and, therefore, cannot be considered a source of security concerns in the community, nor should they be labeled as impersonation or illegal by the council.
The youth further alleged that some diplomats and retired public servants are exploiting the perceived security issues for financial gain, thereby engaging in warmongering and creating division and fear within the community.
The Akrofu youth are appealing to key stakeholders — including Hon. Edem Kpotosu, MP for Ho Central; Hon. James Gunu, Regional Minister; the clergy; and the Regional Police Commander — to intervene and prevent the escalation of the imaginary security allegations in the Akrofu Traditional Area. They also call on the general public to take notice of the situation, support the youth’s demands for peace and stability, and invest in the development of agriculture in Akrofu.
