Member of Parliament for Wa West Peter Toobu has once again cautioned the government against going through with what he terms secret recruitments into the security services.
According to the former Superintendent of Police, his checks at the Police Training School at Tesano revealed some people are going through medicals for recruitment without any public announcement of the exercise.
Minister of Interior Henry Quartey announced about 11,000 people will be recruited from a backlog of applicants.
But addressing the media in Parliament Peter Toobu questioned why the exercise has not been opened to the public.
He warned of dire consequences since a time might come when firemen might inspect party cards before dousing flames whenever called upon.
“This has sparked widespread unrest and confusion among hopeful applicants across the nation. At a recent press conference, Honourable Forson highlighted the growing dissatisfaction among the youth. The number of calls I receive daily is staggering.
“Individuals from Bawku, Tamale, and other regions are heading to Accra, under the impression that recruitment is happening here. The controversy revolves around statements from the Ministry, indicating that the current recruitment drive aims to address a backlog of applicants from 2021 and 2022 who were previously not selected. This has led to an influx of people moving towards Accra, hoping to be considered under this initiative”, the lawmaker stated.
He continued: “Recruitment has a standard procedure and if that procedure is been skewed now and nobody has the understanding then all of us as the representatives of the people have a lot of questions to answer.
“I am calling for transparency, and openness and I am calling for a revert to the standard practice of how people are recruited into the security services. If that is done I think everybody will be happy”.
