The Sekondi Circuit Court has jailed a 36-year-old Nigerian national, Stanley Afaku, to 10 years in prison for his involvement in an armed robbery at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.
The conviction, delivered on Monday, June 9, 2025, by Her Honour Naa Amerley Akowuah, followed a successful intelligence-led operation by the Western Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
According to a statement from the Western Regional Police Command, Afaku and his accomplice, identified as Samuel Nickson, also known as Agya Acquah, attacked a security guard, Nash Arthur, at gunpoint on February 23, 2025.
The incident occurred at the hospital’s premises, where the victim was tied up with his own shirt. The robbers proceeded to steal his mobile phone and broke into the outpatient department pharmacy, escaping with a flat-screen television.

After months of investigations, police intelligence led to the arrest of Stanley Afaku at Esiama Bafana Ghetto on June 4, 2025. Upon arrest, Afaku confessed to the crime and provided information leading to the identification of his accomplice.
Both suspects were charged with robbery and arraigned before the Sekondi Circuit Court. Afaku pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The court further directed that he be deported by the Ghana Immigration Service upon completion of his sentence.

Meanwhile, Samuel Nickson pleaded not guilty and has been remanded into police custody, expected to reappear in court on June 24, 2025.
The Western Regional Police Command has commended the public for their continued support, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
