The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that seven more regions are set to receive passport application centres by the end of 2025, bringing the total coverage to all 16 regions.
According to him, many citizens still travel long distances to access passport services due to the absence of centres in seven regions, adding that “one application centre will be inaugurated this month.”
The Minister made the announcement while presenting diplomatic passports to five distinguished personalities from the creative and tourism sector—popular African YouTuber Wode Maya, artist Ibrahim Mahama, Grammy nominee Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster and international MC Anita Erskine, and entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng.

He explained that the gesture was to honour their contributions in promoting Ghana and attracting investment, while also easing the challenges they often face at airports and borders.
He stressed, however, that “the list is not exhaustive, as many more will be honoured, but without compromising or opening the floodgates for diplomatic passport acquisition.”
In a virtual address from Spain, Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture and MP for Ketu South, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, thanked the Foreign Minister for spearheading the initiative.
She commended the honourees for their immense contributions to the creative industry and urged them to “do more” with the diplomatic passports.
