One of Africa’s biggest YouTubers, Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, popularly known as Wode Maya, has expressed gratitude to the government and President John Mahama for recognising his role in promoting Ghana on the global stage.
Speaking to GHOne TV after receiving a diplomatic passport from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the content creator could not hide his excitement.
“Finally, there’s a government that appreciates what we’re doing,” he said.
Wode Maya revealed that he has faced numerous challenges at international borders and with embassies when applying for visas, describing the diplomatic passport as an honour that would significantly enhance his work.
“This will take me to the next level, and I’m here for the next level,” he added.
He was honoured alongside Grammy-nominated musician and activist Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine, celebrated visual artist Ibrahim Mahama, and Ghanaian British entrepreneur and philanthropist Akosua Dentaa Amoateng.
According to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the five were carefully selected to promote Ghana and help attract investment into the country.
“We want you to promote Ghana and our flagship program and also the Diaspora Summit, scheduled to start in December,” he stated.
The minister emphasised that the recognition was based on merit and global influence, assuring other Ghanaians projecting the nation abroad that they could be considered in the future.
“These five did not apply for or lobby for this passport,” he stressed, adding that there were no political considerations or favouritism involved.
Mr. Ablakwa further disclosed that the decision to honour the five was endorsed by President John Mahama.
